Giorgio Cuscito & Lucy’s Pie Tiny Orchestra
“Immaginate una sera d’inverno, fredda e nebbiosa. In una sala da ballo una band suona il miglior swing, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller. I ballerini ballano imperterriti al ritmo battuto dalla band quando ad un certo punto il sassofonista fa un passo avanti e inizia ad improvvisare, gli occhi puntati sul ballerino con il cappello rosso e la sua dama. Il ballerino lo guarda, lo ascolta, capisce; il pubblico a bordo pista non riesce a staccare gli occhi dalla coppia e le orecchie dalla band, tutto è bellissimo, tutto è magico. I ballerini e il sassofonista sono un tutt’uno, e con loro il resto della band. Ma cosa é successo? Come hanno fatto? Per quei tre minuti sono stati un tutt’uno! Semplice, si sono ascoltati! “
Jump and Music è una rassegna di NonSoloCharleston che porta in città per la prima volta musicisti importanti della scena swing italiana accompagnati dalla giovanissima sezione ritmica della Lucy’s Pie Tiny Orchestra. Jump and Music è un progetto nato per educare i ballerini, i musicisti, gli appassionati, i golosi di swing ad un uso consapevole della musica dal vivo attraverso la comunicazione tra palco e pista da ballo, come se tutti, ma proprio tutti fossero ingredienti fondamentali di questa musica.
Introdurrà la serata Lorenzo Mazzi aka Professor Bop con un breve ma intenso viaggio nella storia, nella musica e nei sentimenti della swing era che fu e quella che sarà.

Jump and Music
“Imagine a winter’s eve, misty and cold. Drifting out of a ballroom are the sounds of the best swing, the songbooks of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller. The dancers are swinging out to the beating rhythm of the band. Suddenly the sax player bursts into a hot solo, his eyes fixed on a couple in the middle of the dancefloor; the man wearing a red hat, the woman a purple dress. The couple watch him, hear him and understand. The crowd along the edge of the dancefloor can’t take their eyes off the couple, nor their ears off the band, lost in this magical moment. The dancers and the sax player are one, united by the music as though their bodies are instruments in the band. All is wonderful for three minutes of musical ecstasy!

Jump and Music is a project of NonSoloCharleston to bring to the city for the first time important musicians of the Italian Swing Scene accompanied by the young rhythm section of Lucy’s Pie Tiny Orchestra. Jump and Music is a project created to educate dancers, musicians, lovers and aficionados of swing through the use of live music to enhance the communication between the stage and the dance floor, as if truly everyone were fundamental ingredients of this music. The evening will be introduced by Lorenzo Mazzi aka Professor Bop with a short but intense journey through history, of the music and the feeling of the swing era past, present and future.
Giorgio Cuscito
Pianista, sassofonista, vibrafonista, arrangiatore e compositore Giorgio Cuscito è tra i personaggi più attivi del mondo swing italiano. Leader e fondatore della “Swing Circus Band” e della “Swing Valley Band” vanta numerose collaborazioni con i grandi del jazz da Lino Patruno a Fabiano “Red” Pellini, a Marcello Rosa, Tony Scott, Bucky Pizzarelli e moltissimi altri. Attualmente è parte degli “Swingmaniacs” di Renzo Arbore. Ottimo ballerino swing, si dedica attivamente alla diffusione e alla divulgazione del Lindy Hop e alla sua integrazione effettiva con la musica jazz, collaborando con diversi insegnanti, da Vincenzo Fesi a Isabella Gregorio, Manuel Micheli, Diana Florindi e Lucio Ughi. Giorgio Cuscito rappresenta oggi un vulcano nell’era dello swing 2.0.
Lucy’s Pie Tiny Orchestra
Energia e ritmo, tradizione e modernità, stile ed eleganza sono gli ingredienti che costituiscono questa band. Riuniti nell’autunno del 2014 per un esordio di eccellenza al festival Swing’n’Milan la band fonde lo stile dei grandi degli anni ’30, l’effervescenza dei contemporanei e la dolcezza delle torte che Lucy, la nonna d’America preparava raccontando di quando ballava charleston. Attivissimi i cinque si fanno conoscere velocemente condividendo importanti esperienze musicali con personaggi incredibili quali Paolo Tomelleri, Giorgio Cuscito e Renzo Luise Da Fano esibendosi su palchi importanti, ultimo in ordine di tempo la partecipazione al festival “Swing Upon a Time” di Salsomaggiore Terme. La Lucy’s Pie Tiny Orchestra è composta da Guido Bianchini, Yuri Biscaro, Andrea Centonze, Arturo Garra e Beatrice Arrigoni.

Professor Bop
Mazz Jazz, fonomescitore, attivista culturale e collezionista di storie e musica degli anni ’20-’30-’40, ci proporrà una breve lezione interattiva con filmati d’epoca e ascolti da vinile. Per capire insieme divertendosi cosa sia quello swing irresistibile che non ci permette di star fermi senza ballare e muovere i nostri happy feet!
